“If you think it’s expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.” -Red Adair As we aim to professionalize our sport we must first take action to professionalize ourselves. We have spent too much time costing ourselves the future we are destined for by refusing to educate ourselves and demand changes to make athlete friendly improvements to our sport. We are still in the process of defining what it means to be a “Professional Track & Field Athlete” but I assure you that there is mo...
Happy 2012 with just short of 6 months until the Olympic trials it is officially crunch time! With my summer being cut short I began my training August 29th which puts me at 19 weeks into training this week. I am still in sunny Miami Florida with Amy Deem training at the University of Miami. Fall training went well and I am looking forward to the indoor season to use as preparation for the outdoor season. We took a more traditional approach this fall pulling out some workouts from my college days. Two of the neatest additions to my trai...
Last week a great opportunity fell into my lap at just the right time. BP America an official USOC sponsor heading into 2012 brought me to New Orleans the the AAU Junior Olympic Games and it was such a wonderful time. With over 14,000 entries it now has the title of largest track meet in the US. Being there was a great reminder of what it was like to be a kid running track. It was so much fun to get to travel to a new place. The goal was simple run as fast as you can and have fun. Wallace, Lolo and I were signing autographs for the kids, annou...

When the girls started talking about wearing PINK this weekend my stomach turned and I felt sick. PINK, in my opinion, is a detestable color EXCEPT when it is PINK for a cause. So when they said we were racing to bring awareness to Breast Cancer I chugged some pepto bismal ( the most disgusting shade of Pink on the planet!) and said, “LET’S DO IT!!!” I lost my Grandmother to breast cancer just before heading over to World Champs in 2005. Pretty much everyone I know has a direct link to a person who has been affec...
For Olympic athlete's, so much of what we do is dependent upon the support we receive from others. Without sponsors it is very difficult to train full time without having to also work. I know few who manage to do both. I am so grateful to all who contribute their expertise, time, funds, favors or products so that training can be my sole focus. Some recent additions to my team include Pasha’s, ChicaBands, VitaCoco and Boston Bill Glasses. I am looking forward to the opportunities created by these partnerships. Pasha’s- Known for not ...
It wasn't at the finish line, but at the start, when sprinter Lauryn Williams knew she was back. Before she stepped into the blocks for the women's 60-meter final at the Millrose Games on Jan. 28 at Madison Square Garden, Williams battled a surge of emotions that had been missing from her racing for a long time. It was an old friend called anxiety. Full Article
I can confidently say I have turned a corner in my faith in the last year or so. On my quest to become stronger in my faith, I’ve done a lot more seeking than I have in the past and I'm learning what a personal relationship with God looks like. At this point in the journey, two experiences stand out,Athlete In Aciton's Ultimate Training Camp andThe Impactmovement's Impact 2010 Conference in Atlanta Georgia. This summer I participated inAIA's Ultimate Training Camp, which I would recommend for every athlete. This camp was a gre...
I think I am a nice girl and if you ask most people I believe they will also tell you I am a nice girl. One group of people who might say otherwise is anyone who recruited me to run track at a college where it snows! I would start the conversation by asking, “Where are you located?” or say “Could you describe the weather?” A lot of conversations didn’t get much further than that. I knew that if I was going to be required to train to keep my scholarship I had better be in a place where I would actually b...
